I ♥ Golf

This year we are dedicating our I Golf season to Ava Bolima, who passed away on March 12th, 2024. I Golf 2024 is in full swing, with 38 golfers. This season marks our 11th season, and 10th season at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex

Ava was one of the golfers that started with us in season 1. Ava created a milestone within our I Golf program by being the first golfer to play on her high school golf team (Del Campo, High School) for 4 years. According to her mom Jen “Ava found her voice through golf.” As we say, “Once a heart family always a heart family,” The Bolima’s will stay part of our Angels for Hearts family as a Heart Angel Family.

We are excited to have our Eagle players out on the course during clinics playing holes. Our Par+, Par and Birdie players will be working on their skills on the backside of the driving range where they have access to the Academy holes, Driving Range, and stations to learn the game.

Many parents of heart kids are told their heart kids will never play sports. Well, golf is the one sport they can play with no restrictions. We asked Dr. Teimour Nasirov why he recommends golf for his heart patients.

“Golf is a great sport and outlet for our cardiac patients. It is fun, competitive, and for children with complex cardiac conditions it provides an aerobic workout that will not stress the heart too much. The kids are still able to enjoy the outdoors and learn the value of a team. We hope many more cardiac patients of all backgrounds get the future opportunity and subsequent value to participate in the sport of golf.”

– Teimour Nasirov, MD (Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon)
